Creams and Ointments

Creams

The best creams are made with the top-quality oils, waxes and incredible herbs, to make a cream that is enjoyable to put on your skin, that is absorbed quickly and a pleasure to behold. This is achieved by the maker having an innate understanding of “balance and quality”.

Some of the grade 1 oils we use to make creams are;- sweet almond, hemp, watermelon, olive, baobab, jojoba, wheat germ, manketti and papaya (each oil has its different use and application).

The waxes that we use are;- cocoa butter, coconut plus fractions, shea-nut and palm wax fractions (including red palm)

Creams are usually made in a water bath so the heat is controlled. We prefer to build the base first, then add the delicate volatiles when the batch is cooling down, to achieve the maximum effectiveness.

We are always working on new creams for specific applications, some of the creams we supply to patients are:

  • Hemp and olive plus touch of rose cream
  • BCT10 cream
  • Sweet birch and ginger cream
  • German & Roman chamomile creams 1-4
  • Berberis cream
  • Calendula petal cream
  • Cream bases
  • Shea-nut cream
  • Manketti cream
  • Rose creams (4 types) plus Papaya and rose cream
  • Peppermint cream
  • Shea-butter cream
  • Special cocoa butter cream
  • Plus any herb or combination cream.

We enjoy making fine creams for our patients to use.

Ointments

They have been around for at least two and a half thousand years in one form or another. They are much harder to prepare as the plant material is macerated into the ointment base with heat and has to be pressed out through filter bags, then stirred until cool. Depending on which herb or combination is used, it can take up to 3-4 hours to complete, depending on the number of pressings required.

The mastery of ointment making is to understand the balance required to blend waxes, oils and water soluble plant extracts with the use of an emulsifier to achieve a smooth uniform ointment that is stickable to the skin, to fix the plant active in place, in order to aid the healing process.

The definition of an ointment is a preparation with less than 20 percent water content.

We supply our patients:-

  • 11th century skin salve (based on a monastic ointment)
  • Christmas ointment (based on a very old healing ointment containing arnica, comfrey, lavender flowers & honey)
  • Hypericum and Calendula 1-4 ointment
  • Comfrey (Symphytum) 1-4 ointment
  • North American Indian Larcal (Larrea ssp, Calendula fl and honey)
  • Dragon drawing ointment (Althaea radix and slippery elm in heavy base)

Plus many other ointments and combinations.
